    Saint Joseph Freinademetz is a figure of great importance in the history of the Catholic Church, especially for his missionary dedication and commitment to evangelization in the East. Born on April 15, 1852, in Oies in Val Badia in Italy a small town in the Dolomites, Freinademetz became a member of the Congregation of the Missionary Verbites, which was founded in 1875 by Saint Vincenzo Grossi in the heart of the Alps. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the congregation’s founding, which has had a significant impact in spreading the Christian message around the world.

    Freinademetz is known for his courage and unwavering faith in spreading the Gospel, especially among the peoples of Asia, where he traveled in 1879. His mission took him to China, where he dedicated himself to teaching and converting, facing enormous difficulties. Despite language barriers, cultural challenges, and precarious living conditions, Freinademetz managed to gain the respect of the local community due to his dedication and love for others. He died in 1908. On October 5, 2003, Pope John Paul II declared him a saint and on August 5, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI visited his birthplace in Oies, Italy.
